Relief from the Midday Heat

[Friday, August 3, 2012]

“Pause in the middle of today and call upon Me. Take a moment to pray and worship, says the Lord, and I will reveal a new dimension of Myself that will bless the remainder of your day. Let Me give you relief this day from the midday heat.”

Prophetic Scripture:

…Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour (John 4:6).

Many years ago before I was in ministry, I used to love going out to my car or to a park during my lunch hour to spend some time with the Lord and read my Bible. It was an enjoyable retreat from my workload, but also an opportunity to get away from the sometimes ungodly lifestyles of my coworkers. It was a much-appreciated midday break. When Jesus went to visit the woman at the well in John 4, it was at the sixth hour of the day, which for us would be about noon. It is that middle part of the day when people are looking for a break from everything the day has handed them thus far. It is no accident Jesus visited this woman at that hour. Her entire life was in the middle of midday heat so to speak. She had been married five times and was now on her sixth relationship. Not only does six represent the hottest part of the day, it is also the number of man, which speaks of man-made efforts. This woman found Jesus when her life was the most heated and she was feeling exhausted and also when she was at the end of her own man-made efforts.

Whether it’s just a reprieve on your lunch break or from a time in your life when you feel like you have found yourself struggling in your own efforts, Jesus is there to meet you. Take some time in the middle of today and talk to the Lord. He is here to bring you relief from the midday heat!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I know You have come to meet me in the middle of my busy schedule and even in the middle of every challenge that I encounter during the day. Remind me to take a moment during the midday to worship and acknowledge You as my source for comfort and relief! Amen.
