“So the Spirit says, pray this day for the strength of My pastors. Help them, for it is they who watch for your soul. Know that I have put pastors over you to keep you in the safety of the sheepfold.”
…Now thy shepherds which were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them… (1 Samuel 25:7).
I am not sure of the confirmed statistics, but I have heard several shocking reports regarding how many pastors every week are getting burned out and quitting ministry because they can’t handle the pressure. While I am well aware that not every pastor handles his or her ministry position honorably, most pastors are quality people and we need to undergird them. Standing on a public platform of evaluation every week isn’t easy, and pastors need our support. We can choose to be one less critic on their long list of evaluators.
In First Samuel 25, David attempts to make acquaintance with Nabal, a very evil but rich and influential man. He opens his salutation by drawing attention to the fact that his men who encountered Nabal’s shepherds at pasture did them no harm. His point was that when they could have easily attacked them and stole their sheep, they didn’t. Their kindness to the shepherds was their way of coming in peace.
One of the best ways believers can show peace and good intentions to the Body of Christ is to treat God’s shepherds, the pastors, considerately and realize that they are vulnerable on the front lines of God’s pasture. Let’s pray and uplift pastors all across the nations today.
Father, I pray for Your shepherds today. I ask You to uplift them with supernatural
strength to fulfill Your call upon them. Empower them with divine
inspiration, and I thank You for placing pastors in our lives to lead us to
