Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth… (Psalms 41:1-2).

The Bible is filled with Scriptures that talk about how to have long life. Some of the common ones are Psalms 91:16 and Exodus 23:26. However, it’s important that we don’t forget that there are some verses where the Bible gives specifics about certain practices that promote longevity. One of them is giving to those in need. In other words, you shouldn’t close your compassionate heart to those who need help. I believe this includes those who are literally poor financiallyspeaking, and also those who are spiritually poor and need ministry. Predominantly, however, this verse is speaking about the literal poor individual. We should give to the poor through organizations that help the poor. We can also do so by helping those we come in contact with as the Holy Spirit prompts us. The key is not to leave the poor out of your heart, because keeping them in consideration is one of the promoters of long life. Psalms 41:3 says it is also a deterrent to disease. Ask the Lord to show you today how you can improve your consideration of those in need and let it impart long life into you today!

Father, help me become more sensitive to the poor or those in need. Show me those I am to minister to as people come across my path. I thank You that as I consider the poor today, You are breathing long life and health into me! In Jesus’ Name, amen!
